Can Greg Oden Really Make A Comeback?

Former Ohio State center Greg Oden is trying it one more time. The 30-year-old former first overall pick in the NBA draft is attempting to resurrect a basketball career that never fully got off the ground.

Oden came to Ohio State already banged up with a broken wrist on the mend in 2006, but showed flashes of his seemingly endless potential when he broke into the lineup.

The big man could move as well as any seven-footer in recent memory, was an intimidating force in the blocks on defense, and had a developing offensive game that NBA scouts drooling.

Unfortunately for him, a degenerative knee condition derailed his career on multiple occasions. He never really got healthy with the Trailblazers, and attempted several times to salvage a career, most recently in 2016 with the Jiangsu Dragons in China.

Now, after spending time back in Columbus with the Ohio State program, it now appears that he’ll try to show that he’s healthy enough to play for the 3 on 3 league founded by rapper/actor Ice Cube. The league is mostly comprised of former NBA players spread across eight teams.

Oden last played in an NBA game on June 10, 2014 for the Miami Heat.

There will be a lot of folks in his corner hoping that this all works out, it just all depends on whether he can take the physical grind of competitive basketball. That sadly hasn’t been the case during his career.
