Ohio State vs. Indiana: 3 Things We Learned

Sometimes You Just Have To Win

Look, this thing wasn’t a beauty pageant for Ohio State — especially in both overtimes. Critical missed free-throws, turnovers, and poor shot selection seemed to plague the Buckeyes when everything was on the line.

But it won.

And that’s all that matters really. Sometimes — especially on the road in a hostile environment — things just don’t come easy. They sure didn’t tonight in Bloomington either.

This Indiana team has been able to play with anyone in its house, so you know what you do with this one? You take the win and skip all the way back to the Schottenstein Center. Sometimes you just have to win ugly, and that’s what it’s all about this time of year.

What To Do About The Turnovers?

I’ve harped on this on more than one occasion, and I’m going to do it again. At some point, if the ball-security doesn’t get better, there’s going to be a painful exit in the post-season in a game that OSU should win.

We saw another game with double-digit turnovers tonight and I guess at this point we just have to realize that it’s the makeup of this team. Without a true point guard, and without a bevy of ball-handlers, Ohio State has found other areas to excel in to mask this deficiency.

That is going to be a day of reckoning though if something doesn’t change. Trust me on that one.

C. J. Jackson Has Been A Revelation This Year

We probably don’t give the point guard Ohio State does have enough credit. The kid is playing an unnatural position for himself, but you never hear him complain.

Couple that with his increased confidence in shooting the ball this year, and this Ohio State team would not be where it is today without him, and sure wouldn’t have won this one tonight.

It didn’t look good with sands running out in the hour-glass until Jackson stepped up and hit the game-winning three with just under two seconds to go.

Sometimes when you put guts, effort and skill together, it’s a beautiful thing. It’s time to give No. 3 the credit he deserves.

Now we wait to see what happens with Purdue and Michigan State on Sunday. I’m going to eat Brats and cheese and have a MGD in honor of the dairy state …
