Ohio State Beats Mich-Again In Hockey To Advance To B1G Championship

They say beating the same team three times in one season is hard. Try telling that to the Ohio State hockey team that just finished off a fifth win over the Michigan Wolverines in as many tries.

And beating the Maize and Blue in any athletic endeavor if you’re an Ohio State fan is always worth the price of admission.

The Buckeyes had beat Michigan four times by a combined score of 17-6 coming into the semifinal matchup of the Big Ten Hockey tournament, and it needed overtime in this one to seal the deal.

Michigan tied the game mid-way through the third period 2-2, and the game had to go to a teetering on the edge extra period.

But just 32 seconds into overtime, Matthew Weis took a pass across the middle of the ice in the slot and wristed one into the net for the sudden-death winner.

Next up is a date with No. 1 seed Notre Dame next Saturday March 17 for the Big Ten Hockey Tournament championship. The game is on BTN at 8 PM Eastern.

For poor Michigan, it’s another long bus ride home to Ann Arbor with yet another loss to Ohio State in another sport.

Somewhere Jim Harbaugh is shedding a tear.
