Ohio State's Kelsey Mitchell Ready For One Last Run

Kelsey Mitchell has already had a remarkable career at Ohio State. Now the Buckeye point guard looks to finish it off strong, and she’s hoping her grandma’s advice can help her do that.

Kelsey Mitchell is Ohio State’s and the Big Ten’s all-time scoring leader. She’s a three-time Big Ten Player of the Year, has won multiple All-American honors, and is one of ten semifinalists for the 2017-2018 Naismith Award. (The finalists, by the way, will be announced March 16th.)

Maybe one day she’ll sit down, look at her resume, and think about what an impressive run she’s had.

“My grandmother just said that to me,” Mitchell smiled. “She said it won’t hit you now, but it will hit you when it’s all over.”

One of the few things Mitchell hasn’t done to this point is play on a team that has made it out of the Sweet Sixteen, but she’s looking to remedy that.

“It means a lot to me. I want to win as much as possible,” she told reporters after the Buckeyes NCAA Tournament draw was announced Monday.

Ohio State earned the three seed and will take on 14 seed George Washington on Saturday, March 17th. That game will be played at St. John Arena.

The Final Four games this year will also be in Columbus, and Mitchell is well aware.

“I don’t care who you are, if you’re not thinking about it, you’re crazy. But you just try to stay in the moment and try not to think too far ahead.”

Which is pretty much what her grandma says about that, too.

“Have fun with it, don’t get over your head with it. Just live out the rest of your senior year the way you want to,” Mitchell said, listing off grandma’s advice. “So that’s what I’m going to try to do.”
