That Matta Turns Down The Georgia Job

According to Jeff Goodman of ESPN, former Ohio State head coach Thad Matta has turned down overtures from Georgia to be its next head basketball coach.

Reports began surfacing over the last couple of days that Matta had jumped to the top of the list to replace fired coach Mark Fox, and the administrators had met with and offered a contract somewhere around five years for $15 Million.

It was a bit of a surprise on the heels of Matta mutually agreeing to leave Ohio State largely because of recruiting concerns over his ailing back and health.

This at least provides some evidence that the former winningest coach in Ohio State history still misses the game and might get back into it in the not too distant future, but there still seems to be some hesitation on jumping back into the grind that seemed to wear him down in Columbus.

Georgia must now look elsewhere for a coach that knows it is not the first choice for the SEC school.

Of course if anything changes, we’ll stay on top of any further developments with Matta, as he was also linked to the Ole Miss job.
