Ohio State Wrestling Falters In The Semifinals Of The NCAA Wrestling Tournament

It was always going to be an uphill battle anyway with the depth and strength of where Penn State stood, but after only two Ohio State wrestlers advanced to today’s finals, the shot at a second NCAA national title has seemingly slipped through Ohio State’s hands.

It looked good after day one with the OSU wrestling team enjoying first place for a few sessions, but it all turned last night.

Penn State advanced six of its wrestlers to the final, and Ohio State was only able to get all-everything Kyle Snyder along with Myles Martin into the final, while dropping the four other matches it had a potential in.

By wracking up results, Penn State piled up points and is taking a commanding 120.5 to 109.5 lead going into the finals.

It was a day where what could go wrong for Ohio State, almost certainly did with Nathan Tomasello and Micha Jordan both falling to shift the balance towards Penn State’s favor.

The Buckeye wrestling team is not mathematically eliminated, but it would take almost everything going right for Ohio State, and almost everything going wrong for Penn State for it to happen tonight.

There is at least the opportunity to watch Kyle Snyder do battle with the only man that had beaten him in years, when he goes against Michigan’s Adam Coon in the heavyweight weight class. Those two staged an epic battle in the Big Ten tournament.
