It’s been a bit of a trickle, but Ohio State landed its third verbal commitment for the 2019 class yesterday. It comes from four-star running back recruit Sampson James.
Four-Star Running Back Sampson James Commits To Ohio State
Ohio State has gotten its third verbal for the 2019 class — and it’s a big one.
Sampson James announced the commitment on Twitter yesterday after going on an unofficial visit to Ohio State last weekend. The Indiana priduct was not expected to decide directly after his trip to Columbus, but reports indicate that he fell in love with Ohio State and wanted to go ahead and pledge his allegiances to Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes.
James is rated as the No. 142 overall prospect, and eighth best running back in the country according to 247Sports. He’s a bigger back at 6-1, 211 lbs. and cut out of the same mold as a L.J. Scott of Michigan State, but he possesses a bit more breakaway speed for someone his size.
He’s also very adept at pass-protecting and picking up blitzes in the backfield, a skill that’s rare for just a high school senior.
It’s been well-publicized the depth of the running back position at Ohio State, so we’ll have to see how many more ball-carriers OSU goes after in the 2019 class, and how the room shakes out as they all begin competing next year.
