The Ohio State men’s hockey team will be making their eighth overall NCAA Tournament appearance on Saturday, but it’s their first time there as a number one seed.

“I mean, teams are scared. I would be at least,” said defenseman Matt Miller. “Just kinda being the top dogs there? Pretty special feeling.”

The Buckeyes (24-9-5) will face No. 4 seed Princeton (19-12-4) at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in a Midwest Regional game at the PPL Center in Allentown, Pa.

OSU heads in as one of the top 11 scoring offenses in the country (3.18 goals per game) and top five in team defense (2.11 goals allowed per game).

However, the Buckeyes will be without senior forward Matthew Weiss, who is third on the team with 37 points. According to the Big Ten Network, he suffered an upper body injury in practice.

Weiss also missed the Big Ten title game, which the Buckeyes lost in overtime 3-2 to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Plus, Ohio State will be facing one of the hottest teams in the country as the Tigers are 8-1-1 in their last ten games.

“They’ve got some high-end talent. They’ve got a fantastic power play,” said coach Steve Rohlik. “When a team is playing their best, you know that you’ve got to be prepared, and certainly we’ve got to be prepared for those guys.”

The winner of this game will play the winner of the match-up later that Saturday evening between No. 2 seed Denver (22-9-8) and No. 3 seed Penn State (18-14-5).

The winner of that game on Sunday will advance to the Frozen Four.
