Chris Holtmann Finishes Third In AP Coach Of The Year Voting

Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann has already been named Big Ten Coach of the Year, and he just about walked away with a national coach of the year award.

Well sort of.

Virginia head coach Tony Bennett won the award in a landslide — taking 50 of the 65 total first place votes — with Rick Barnes coming in second with five votes.

Holtmann came in third with four votes after leading Ohio State to a tie for second place in the Big Ten, and a second round loss in the NCAA tournament. All in a year when the Buckeyes were expected to little more than build a bridge for future success.

Not that Holtmann needs the notoriety, but it’s just another feather in the cap of the first year coach trying to restore the Ohio State brand.
