Ohio State Hockey Finishes At No. 3 In Final National Rankings

The Ohio State men’s hockey team may have finished a wee-bit short of the ultimate prize at the Frozen Four, but it was still a season to remember.

The final rankings are out for both the USCHO and USA Today-USA Hockey Magazine polls, and the Scarlet and Gray have their highest ever finish at No. 3 in both.

Notre Dame and Michigan finished at Nos. 2 and 4 respectively in both polls.

The Buckeyes went into the season with modest expectations, but the emergence of good goal-tending, tenacious play and great penalty killing resulted in a second place finish in a deep and talented Big Ten conference that had three of the four participants in the Frozen Four.

OSU just missed out on a Big Ten tournament title — losing to Notre Dame in OT in the championship game — and received a No. 1 seed in the Midwes Region of the NCAA tournament. It finished just short of a rally to tie the game against Minnesota-Duluth in a national semifinal.

It could be argued that this is the best season of OSU hockey ever, and can, and should hopefully be a springboard towards more of these types of seasons in the future.
