Urban Meyer’s jewelry chest — if he has such a thing — is going to need an upgrade at this rate. That’s because the Ohio State football players and coaches received the latest pair of gold pants on Thursday.

If you follow the Buckeye program, then you know it well. As the story goes, first-year head coach Francis Schmidt, in response to the rivalry that had been dominated by the Wolverines up until that time, made a point to state that “Michigan put their pants on one leg at a time just like the rest of us.”

And with that, in 1934 the Gold Pants tradition was born and has been a part of the tradition of The Game on the Ohio State sideline since. Schmidt’s team won that ’34 matchup as well as in 1935, ’36, and ’37 — all shutouts.

Fast forward to today and the Gold Pants are still revered by the players and coaches in what is considered one of the greatest rivalry in all of sports. And even though Ohio State has taken 13 of the last 14 in the series, it’s still a special day to add to the collection.

And in case you were wondering, you too can get your hands on set of these glorious pieces of jewelry if you have about $3K to shell out. There are plenty on EBay.

But let’s not buy into the rumor that Michael Jackson was an Ohio State fan.
