Ohio State and Cincinnati have agreed to open the seal on the 2018-19 basketball season at the newly renovated Fifth Third Arena.
Ohio State Basketball To Open 2018 On The Road Against Cincinnati
Well, what do we have here?
Chris Holtmann has alluded to playing more in-state rivals under his tenure, and had already agreed to play the Bearcats in a home-and-home series for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 campaigns, but we had yet to have a date finalized.
All credit to Eleven Warriors (Tweet above) for finding this on the Cincinnati’s Athletics Website, but it was also publicized in the Cincinnati Enquirer three days ago.
The two will meet on Nov. 7 and usher in a newly opened and remodeled Fifth Third Bank Arena, in what is sure to be a hyped-up meeting. It’ll be the first time OSU has played in the Queen City since 1920.
In the past Ohio State has been very reluctant to schedule the likes of Cincinnati, Dayton and Xavier because it felt it was the big boy in the state with nothing to gain — and only recruits to lose — from a potential loss.
That is all now thankfully changing under Holtmann, and you can expect to see more of these types of games that will create great atmospheres and excitement around basketball in the state.
How about an I71 throwdown?
Now, about those trips to Hawaii to play in the Maui Invitational please .. Who’s coming with me?
