Ohio State Walk-On Wide Receiver C.J. Saunders Now On Scholarship

C.J. Saunders decided to make a dream come true in 2015 when he walked-on to play for Ohio State. Good on him, and that’s where most of these stories end.

But not with Saunders.

News came down late Friday night that the walk-on has been awarded an athletic scholarship after working his tail off for two years in practice and pushing others.

So much so that Saunders began to crack the lineup with playing time last year — albeit mostly in mop up duty. He appeared in twelve games last year with seventeen catches for 221 yards and a touchdown.

A far cry from the days when he only dreamed of wearing the Scarlet and Gray.

Now Saunders has the chance to get even more playing time in 2018, as he’s drawn rave reviews from the coaching staff on his work ethic and development.

It’s not every day a walk-on makes it to scholarship level, especially considering the Buckeyes are still two scholarships over the maximum limit and must find a way to work that out before the fall kicks off.

Well done C.J. Well done.
