The Ohio State Men’s Volleyball season ended Thursday night with a loss to No. 1 overall seed Long Beach State in four sets.
Ohio State Men’s Volleyball Drops National Semifinal to Long Beach State
The amazing run by the Ohio State men’s volleyball team has come to an end. After winning two-straight national championships, The Buckeyes had won its first two games of the NCAA tournament but fell to the hands of No. 1 seed Long Beach State three sets to one (22-25, 23-25, 27-25, 30-32) in the national semifinal.
It is the third consecutive year the Buckeye men’s volleyball squad has made it to the final four of the NCAAs.
As you would expect, Ohio State didn’t go down without a fight, rallying to win the third set and saving five match points, but in the end Long Beach State was just too deep and too talented for an Ohio State team that lost a lot of firepower last year to overcome.
Still, it has been a remarkable run for the Ohio State men’s volleyball team. All told, OSU had won seven-straight NCAA Tournament matches and seventeen straight post-season contests. The streak of three straight MIVA titles is still in tact as the Buckeyes head into the offseason.
Now it’s time to develop and get ready for another potential run next year, but the team will have to replace outside hitter and All-American Nicolas Szerszen.
