Joe Burrow Has Graduated, Now What?

To be considered a graduate transfer, one must first — ya know — graduate. For Ohio State quarterback Joe Burrow, that first part of the equation is now complete, the question now remains if the second part will now get some legs.

Burrow and 11,906 of his closest friends all packed into Ohio Stadium on Sunday to accept their degrees — completing the largest graduating class in Ohio State history.

And yes, the kid out of Athens, Ohio walked across stage and accepted the transition to his next season in life, whatever that may be.

So now we sit and wait, because it was unlikely that any announcement of significance on Burrow’s status was going to occur prior to graduation. And the reality is that it still may be some time before we hear anything out of quarterbackgate unless someone like deep throat (or scarlet penman) comes forward.

But here’s what we do know and can work backwards from. Fall camp for Ohio State begins either in late July or early August. That means we are just a about three months — or 90 days — away from things getting down to business for the 2018 season.

And if Burrow is going to transfer, he’ll be out of Columbus by then because other schools will also be following the same type of timeline. You’d also like to think that a decision would be made before that, because of the whole planning thing and all.

We must also remember that Joe is not the only party in this equation. Urban Meyer will give the kid a long leash on making a decision, but Ohio State must also move forward from the distraction of the whole scenario and make plans for the season.

So if something is going to happen — i.e, Burrow transferring — that something is likely to happen between now and sixty days or so. But probably less than that so everyone can move on. I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear something in the next thirty days.

And if we don’t, you can consider that as a no news is good news sort of thing because likely things are steaming ahead with the competition continuing in earnest likely without Burrow (or anyone) separating themselves enough to be called as the starter.

That would mean Burrow has decided to stick it out, and roll the dice on his ability to come through the smokescreen as the last man standing.

We’ll all know someday, unless we don’t, but when we do, then so be it. The clock is ticking loudly …
