Ohio State lost focus late in the game against Iowa and gave away a chance at advancing to the next round of the Big Ten Tournament.
Ohio State Softball Knocked Out Of Big Ten Tournament By Iowa
The No. 5 seeded Ohio State softball team didn’t expect to go home so early, and truth be known, probably shouldn’t have. But you have to play defense, and that part of the Buckeyes’ game let them down at the most inopportune time.
The game had been a pitcher’s dual all the way through six innings, with both teams managing to push just one across the board on a combined total of seven hits between both squads.
Then the wheels fell off.
There was a wee-bit of help from the umpires with a couple of blown calls that didn’t go the Buckeyes’ way, but Ohio State still could have gotten out of the inning without any damage done. Instead, a couple of wild pitches and a passed ball acted as the catalyst to four runs in the top of the seventh for the No. 12 seeded Hawkeyes.
Ohio State tried to rally in the bottom of the inning — loading the bases — but couldn’t manage to get that timely rally to bring things back square.
With the loss, Ohio State’s run in the Big Ten tournament is over, and now they’ll have to wait to see what its postseason fate will be. OSU really needed a run in the conference tournament to lock its chances of getting into the NCAAs.
Now, there will be some nervous moments waiting for the field to be announced.
