Transfers Of Joe Burrow And Wayne Davis Get Ohio State To Scholarship Limit

You’ve surely heard the news of the Joe Burrow transferring by now, but another Buckeye also announced his decision to move on from the program on Thursday with the announcement by defensive back Wayne Davis, Jr. via Twitter.

Davis — a redshirt sophomore — still has three years of eligibility remaining but appeared to be buried on the depth chart with little chance of seeing the field in 2018, and maybe beyond with some of the players being brought in.

He was originally a four-start recruit out of Norfolk, Virginia but never really developed to the point of pushing for playing time. He’ll now be looking to further his academics and athletics somewhere else.

We wondered how Ohio State would get down to the 85 scholarship limit mandated by the NCAA, but with both Burrow and Davis transferring out, the program is now where it wants to be with months to go.

Don’t look for too many more losses or gains in the personnel department. The coaching staff might want to test the waters for a graduate transfer QB, but that is unlikely at this point.
