Former Ohio State Quarterback J.T. Barrett Impressing In Saints Rookie Camp

Even though J.T. Barrett went undrafted in the seven rounds of the 2018 NFL draft, there was still plenty of interest from NFL teams afterwards. He ultimately signed with the Saints, and so far so good in New Orleans.

Former Ohio State Quarterback J.T. Barrett Impressing In Saints Rookie Camp

It was always going to be an uphill battle for former Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett, but if you haven’t been paying attention to what he’s been doing in the New Orleans Saints rookie camp, maybe you should.

Yeah, it’s still early and one can’t judge the potential of a QB — especially at the NFL level — by how he does in such a short period of time, but Barrett is at least turning heads and getting noticed. And that’s much better than the alternative.

We must also keep in mind the fact that this is rookie training camp where the talent level is not quite where it will be when he’s inserted into a hornet’s nest with all the big money guys, but again, you have to start out on the plus side, before you can add to things.

And it’s not just media members that are noticing what the former Ohio State quarterback is doing.

Head coach Sean Payton has had glowing reviews of Barrett’s leadership and abilities, and if there’s one guy you want to impress, the head coach is a good place to start. He had the following to say about why the Saints picked up Barrett as an undrafted free agent.

Not bad for a kid that has had his abilities questioned time and time again by fans, media members and scouts alike. It’ll still be like flying into a headwind for Barrett, but at least he has things pointed in the right direction.

Maybe Barrett will catch on with the Saints, and maybe he won’t. Only time will tell, but so far so good.

When you think about it, we really shouldn’t be all that surprised.
