Ohio State Baseball Continues To Rise In The RPI

The Ohio State baseball team continues to win series and climb the RPI rankings that arguably have more bearing on the postseason for baseball than most other college sports.

The Buckeyes now sit at No. 33 in the RPI, which is a rise six spots from No. 39 at the last release. It all comes on the heels of winning two series in a row over the last two weekends of Big Ten play.

First, the Buckeyes took two of three from Illinois on the road, then was able to take its last series at home against a Purdue team that had rattled off a nation’s best thirteen straight coming into Columbus.

The only two Big Ten teams ahead of Ohio State in the RPI are Minnesota at No. 24 and Indiana at No. 27. When it comes to getting into the NCAA tournament, teams generally want to be in group one of the RPI that encompasses the top fifty.

Illinois is the only other Big Ten team in group one — coming in at No. 44. Both Michigan (54) and Purdue (56) sit just outside with plenty of baseball still to go with conference tournaments just around the corner.

Ohio State is in fairly good position at the moment for the NCAAs but there’s still work to do.
