Ohio State To Offer Free Tackling Seminar For Youth Coaches

Per a release today from the folks at Ohio State, the university will be holding a youth tackling seminar for local and regional youth and middle school football coaches. This is a great move by Ohio State for a sport that has come under increased safety scrutiny over the last few years.

The seminar will be held May 22 at 6 PM in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

Things like concussions, spine injuries and other injuries have become a public concern — largely because kids aren’t being taught the correct way to tackle, and have been leading with the head and putting their bodies in prone positions when trying to make a big play.

Safe Tackling Clinic for Youth Coaches Set for May 22

Ohio State staff, including co-defensive coordinator Alex Grinch, will teach fundamentals of safe tackling 

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State football program will offer a free youth tackling safety seminar for local and regional youth and middle school football coaches Tuesday, May 22 at 6 p.m. at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. The clinic is free.

Co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Alex Grinch, and additional members of the Ohio State football staff, will instruct and teach on the fundamentals of safe tackling. Coaches in attendance will also receive a free DVD on tackling fundamentals. 

Youth and middle school coaches planning on attending are asked to please email football program administrator Brendan Bishop at bishop.439@osu.edu with their intentions.
