Ohio State Baseball Takes First Of Three Against Michigan State

The Ohio State baseball team is looking to move up the Big Ten standings and work on its NCAA resume as the season comes to a close. So, it’s a good thing the Buckeyes got off on the right foot by taking game one of the the season’s final three game set at Michigan State 10-8.

The Buckeyes jumped out to a 3-1 lead through four innings, and then things began to get interesting. From there the Michigan State offense woke up and eventually took the lead 4-3 on a double after four straight hits in the bottom of the sixth.

The Spartans led 5-4 heading into the top of the ninth before the proverbial wheels fell off. The Buckeyes took advantage of several wild pitches, walks, and mental errors by the Spartans to put six runs on the board and seemingly put the game out of reach 10-5 heading to the bottom of the ninth.

But Michigan State ended up putting a scare into the Scarlet and Gray — scoring three runs to pull within 10-8. From there, two men got on, and with two outs, it looked like a walk-off homer might be in the cards.

But no. The ball landed harmlessly just short of the wall in in leather as Ohio State breathed a collective sigh of relief. The Spartans lost despite pounding out sixteen hits against Buckeye pitching. With the win, the Buckeyes improved to 34-18 overall, and 14-8 in conference.

They don’t ask you how you won, just if you won. Game two takes place again tomorrow at 4:05 PM Eastern.
