Ohio State Men’s Tennis Advances To Semifinals of NCAAs

They never said it would be easy.

Ohio State rallied from a 2-0 deficit to outlast the Bulldogs and win 4-3. Things got off to a rocky start as the Bucks dropped the doubles point for the first time in the last twenty matches and fell in a sizable hole after losing the first singles match.

But this is an Ohio Sate program that’s been there before, and it gained momentum with side-by-side court single matches by Martin Joyce and John McNally to pull the overall match even at 2-2.

Mississippi State would regain the lead on another singles match win, but the Buckeyes would take the last two matches in back-and-forth affairs to seal the deal via a 6-1 third set win by Mikael Torpegaard.

The Buckeyes will now face UCLA at 2 PM on Monday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The winner will face either Texas A&M or Wake Forest for the national title.

It’s the second straight appearance in the semifinals for Ohio State, and will continue the quest of trying to win its first outdoor national title in program history despite several close shaves.
