Ohio State Could Become The Outright Second Winningest Program Of All-Time In 2018

Ohio State has been winning a bushel of games over the last couple of decades, and has been moving up the list of all-time wins. With another good year in 2018, it could become the outright second winningest program of all-time.

Ohio State Could Become The Second Winningest Program Of All-Time In 2018

Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but Ohio State is one of the best programs in all of college football, just ask our friendly neighbors to the north.

On that note, perhaps you haven’t noticed, but Ohio State has been climbing up the all-time wins list over the last few years — eleven and twleve games per year will do that.

And while it would have been unfathomable that Notre Dame would relinquish its spot atop the all-time wins list a couple of decades ago, the rut that the Fighting Irish have been in has actually allowed other teams to pass it. The Golden Domers now sit at No. 6 all-time.

Count Ohio State as one of those. Going into last year, Ohio State was fourth in all-time wins, but nipping on the heels of Nebraska and Texas. The Longhorns sat in third all time, just five games ahead, while the ‘Huskers were just three games in front of the Buckeyes.

Well, we know Nebraska went thud and only won four games, and with Texas going 7-6 last year, Ohio State now sits at No. 2 with Texas, both with a total of 898 wins. Nebraska is five games behind at 893.

And it’s not just total wins either. The Buckeyes are third in winning percentage currently, sitting at an all-time winning percentage of .725, just behind Boise State’s .727.

So, all Ohio State has to do this year is outpace Texas again, and not have a total train-wreck of a season (as if) and it will be the outright No. 2 winningest program of all-time. It’ll be hard to catch Boise State in the winning percentage, but OSU could be on the move there too.

Of course Michigan leads all programs in both total wins and all-time winning percentage, and it won’t be caught for the next few years at least, but the gap on that has also been closing. Thank goodness for the days when leather helmets were worn.
