Keita Bates-Diop Goes Early In 2nd Round Of NBA Draft To The Timberwolves

The wait is over. Former Ohio State forward and reigning Big Ten Player of the Year Keita Bates-Diop has been selected in the second round of the 2018 NBA Draft.

Diop went off the board to the Minnesota Timberwolves as the No. 48 overall player and might end up being one of the steals of the draft. We’ll have to wait and see, but the 6-8 Diop has a 7-4 wing span that allows him to be versatile with his face or back to the basket.

It’s a skill set that hard to find, and impossible to teach. It’s simply astonishing that a player of his caliber was allowed to fall this far.

The two-way player struggled to stay on the court with some injuries during his time in Columbus, but finally put it all together last year when he was fully healthy. He led Ohio State in points, rebounds and blocks and finished second in the conference in scoring.

It was the addition of Diop to the lineup that helped catapult the Buckeyes to second place in the Big Ten, and a spot in the NCAA field.

Now Diop opens a new chapter in his life as he realizes his dream of playing in the NBA. You’d be foolish to bet against the kid.
