Kyle Snyder, Kelsey Mitchell Named Ohio State Athletes Of The Year

As if Kyle Snyder needs more accolades, he was just named Ohio State’s Male Athlete of the Year. Kelsey Mitchell garnered OSU’s Female Athlete of the Year.

Ohio State national title heavyweight wrestler and World Champion Kyle Snyder just keeps on adding to his press clippings, albeit a little more tame this time around.

Snyder was just named the university’s Male Athlete of the Year for the third consecutive time today, joining Kelsey Mitchell as OSU’s Female Athlete of the Year.

Amazingly enough for a school known mostly for football, this is the fifth-straight year a wrestler has earned the award, joining Logan Steiber two years-straight prior to Snyder’s run. The last football player to win the same recognition was Troy Smith in 2007.

As award winners, the two will now appear on the ballot for Big Ten Athlete of the Year. For Snyder, he’ll be going for a double. He won the Big Ten award last year.

The last Ohio State female athlete to win the Big Ten Athlete of the Year was track and field star Christina Manning in 2012. The winners should be announced very soon. Last year, the results of the voting were announced on June 28.
