Ohio State's Kyle Snyder Wins Jesse Owens Big Ten Male Athlete Of The Year

Ohio State Wrestler Kyle Snyder has repeated as the Big Ten’s male athlete of the year.

Per a release from Ohio State and the Big Ten office, Ohio State heavyweight wrestler and World Champion Kyle Snyder has been recognized as the Jesse Owens Big Ten Male Athlete of the Year.

It’s the second-straight year that Snyder has won the award, and means Ohio State has now claimed three of the last four on the male side with fellow wrestler Logan Stieber’s recognition in 2015.

The win results in the ninth total Big Ten Athlete of the Year Award for Ohio State, second all time behind Michigan’s ten total between both the male and female recipients. The award originated in 1982 for the men, and 1983 for the women.

Kelsey Mitchell was also on the ballot for Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year as Ohio State’s Athlete of the Year, but did not win recognition from the Big Ten. Instead, Indiana University swimmer Lilly King was recognized.
