BOOM! Ohio State Lands Five-Star Point Guard D.J. Carton

The news doesn’t get much bigger than what Ohio State basketball just got — at least in recruiting.

The Buckeyes have already landed the top recruit in Ohio, Alonzo Gaffney out of Cleveland Garfield for the 2019 class, and now it has added five-star point guard D.J. Carton out of Bettendorf, Iowa.

Carton was thought to be a heavy Michigan lean in recent weeks, but Ohio State kept making the cut as he trimmed his list down to six, and then three. Indiana and Michigan were the other two schools still in the running prior to Carton’s official visit to Columbus this past week.

The 6-1, 189 lb. Carton is rated as the No. 2 point guard in the country, and 21st best player in the 2019 class according to 247Sports. Simply put, it’s a huge, huge get for Chris Holtmann and company.

With the news, Ohio State’s 2019 recruiting class has moved up to No. 4 overall in the country, and tops in the Big Ten according to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings. The Buckeyes probably have room for one or two recruits still for the cycle if they so desire.

Folks should be excited by what’s building in Columbus. If you take what’s already on the roster, with the freshman class coming in, and project out the 2019 class, things should be at a very, very high level in the not too distant future.
