Ohio State Football: Luke Farrell On Mackey Preseason Watch List
The yearly parade of preseason watch lists continued today with the announcement of those selected to the Mackey Award Preseason Watch List. Appearing on the list along with 63 others is Ohio State tight end Luke Farrell.
The John Mackey Award was established in 2000 and is handed out annually to college football’s most outstanding tight-end. A Buckeye has never won the award.
Thought to be the starter as it stands right now at the tight end spot based on comments coming out of the spring by Urban Meyer, the 6-6, 249 lb. Farrell is still warding off competition from Rashod Berry, as well as highly touted recruit Jeremy Ruckert.
It should be noted that along with most other award lists, players can — and will — be added throughout the season. The tight end spot could be a valuable pass-catching position this year at Ohio State with the installation of the pocket-passing Dwayne Haskins at quarterback.
Time will tell.
