Team Scarlet And Gray Advances Easily To Second Round Of TBT

An impressive collection of former Ohio State players is back for another run in The Basketball Tournament. So far so good, as it won its first round game against the West Virginia Wildcats in blowout fashion.

Team Scarlet And Gray Advances Easily To Second Round Of TBT

This could be a whole lot of fun.

Team Scarlet & Gray had no problem dispatching of an upstart No. 16 seed West Virginia Wildcat team in the first round of The Basketball Tournament today, and they might just be the team to beat.

We’ll see.

Playing in front of a sold-out home crowd in Columbus at Capital University, the collection of mostly former head coach Thad Matta’s players got out to quick 7-0 lead.

They never looked back.

The Wildcats had no answer for the bigs of Ohio State. Jared Sullinger led the way with twenty points, with Byron Mullens chipping in fourteeen — including a thunderous dunk that literally stopped the game.

One of the few non-Ohio State alums — former Penn State guard Talor Battle — held his own as well, scoring eleven in the first half, and finishing with sixteen for the game to pace Scarlet & Gray to a 55-30 half-time lead.

It was more of the same in the second half with everyone getting into the mix en route to a 99-68 pasting.

The game location in Columbus brought out some Ohio State royalty as well. Not only did Thad Matta get a resounding ovation it attendance, but other former and current Ohio State players were also spotted in the crowd.

With the win, Team Scarlet and Gray will now face off against the No. 9 seeded Matadors who are made up of former Texas Tech players Sunday at 2PM. It blew the doors off the No. 8 Bearcat Jam team made up of former University of Cincinnati players 80-63 prior to Team Scarlet and Gray taking the court.

It should be another fun and electric atmosphere at Capital University tomorrow.
