Former Ohio State Running Back Antonio Williams Cleared To Play For North Carolina

Antonio Williams had praised heaped upon his standing within the running back room for Ohio State during spring practice by several members of the coaching staff, but he no doubt saw the writing on the wall we he announced his decision to transfer to North Carolina shortly after.

Transfer rules stipulate that a non-graduate player must sit out one year before being eligible to play for his new team, but Williams petitioned that rule upon arrival in Chapel Hill, citing family reasons.

The NCAA accepted that waiver late last week and Carolina head coach Larry Fedora announced his immediate eligibility with two seasons remaining.

Williams was originally a four-star recruit that had committed to North Carolina to stay close to home, but changed his mind and signed with Ohio State in 2016. He soon got buried on the depth chart behind Mike Weber, and then breakout freshman J.K. Dobbins last year.

He’ll fill an immediate need for North Carolina and all of Buckeye nation wishes him well.
