The Jeff Snook Facebook Post, What It means For The Urban Meyer Investigation

And the saga continues …

Before I get into the details surrounding the Facebook post/story by veteran Ohio State journalist and author Jeff Snook bombshelled out there today, I want to continue to make a couple of things clear.

Nobody truly knows the full story on this thing aside from Courtney and Zach Smith. To state otherwise is pure speculation and we’ll have to simply let this all play out.

Also — and more importantly — everyone needs to be very, very careful about victim shaming. The statistics say that it’s very rare for a victim of sexual or domestic abuse to lie about the abuse. I think people need to tread lightly here on some of the blame and mudslinging being flung towards Courtney Smith.

That being said, we have news, so I feel compelled to share it in a non-judgmental way.

Earlier today, Jeff Snook, who is very connected to the Ohio State program posted an article on Facebook after reaching out to both Courtney and Zach Smith’s mothers.

You can read through the entire story here, but I’ll give you the cliff-notes version. Basically, in a bit of a shock, both mothers informed Snook that they believe Courtney Smith is misrepresenting some of the allegations towards her husband and that she, not Zach, was the aggressor in a lot of the situations.

It’s one thing to have Zach’s mom stand by him, but for Courtney’s to collaborate much of the story is a bit of a knee-knocker. And while the national media is still digesting all of this, here’s an account of what I believe it all means:

  • We are starting to see why charges have never made it to any sort of conviction towards Zach Smith. There continue to be conflicting stories and statements, and the truth is extremely hard to ascertain. There’s no doubt police have also had a hard time uncovering the truth.
  • Slow down Buckeye fans. It’s normal for victims of domestic and sexual abuse to be railed against — especially when you’re dealing with those allegations having the potential of bringing down a beloved coach of a major college football program.
  • There are always more than one side of the story, and a major reason why I have a big problem with whole Brett McMurphy broke this news.
  • None of this exonerates Zach Smith or Urban Meyer. We won’t know the full story on this even as the independent committee investigating provides its findings.
  • Snook has also gone on record to state that many insiders at Ohio State claim that there’s a lot more to this story and that nobody should be surprised if he’s still the coach on September 1.

  • Since when did Facebook become the spot for which sports journalists break news? First McMurphy, and now this.

I’m sure we’ll continue to get news come out on this thing even after we know the findings of the investigation and what happens with Urban Meyer. Until then, we’ll continue to bring you the news we feel is relevant.
