Buckeye Battle Cry: Bold Predictions For Ohio State Football This Year

We take a break from all the Urban Meyer stuff to bring you our weekly roundtable Buckey Battle Cry. And hey, it doesn’t even have anything to do with the ongoing saga at OSU. This week we asked our writers for one bold prediction for Ohio State football this year.

Buckeye Battle Cry: Bold Predictions For Ohio State Football This Year?

The season is inching closer and closer, and there’s plenty of things to discuss with Ohio State football, both on and off the field.

We pause to get back to football and asked our writers to pick a bold prediction for the upcoming season. And no, these aren’t designed to be simple predictions, but something that might be a wee-bit off the radar for 2018.

So off we go …

Alright, how about this… Ohio State will have two 1000 yard running backs this season in JK Dobbins and Mike Weber!

I know the prevailing thought here is that each running back will cut into the others carries, but lets think of it another way. This year there’s no JT Barrett to cut into the ground attack.

Yes, we saw last year that Dwayne Haskins can run if needed, which is a good thing. However, Haskins is much more of a pure pocket passer and many of Barrett’s runs were by design.

I predict Urban (yes, I now believe he’ll be back as more information comes forward) will have a more balanced attack. Haskins being a much more accurate passer will keep opposing defenses from stacking the box. When a defense is forced to respect the pass, which hasn’t always been the case the past few seasons at OSU, the running game gets opportunities for big yards.

Think along the lines of Auburn’s Carnell “Cadillac” Williams and Ronnie Brown or Arkansas’s Darren McFadden and Felix Jones… only better.
