Ohio State Picks Up Former West Virginia QB As Graduate Transfer
Per reports, Ohio State has landed former West Virginia quarterback Chris Chugunov through the graduate transfer process.
Chugunov graduated from West Virginia in May this past season after three seasons. He decided to leave Morgantown about six months ago, and it appears he has now decided to look at enrolling at Ohio State to be eligible as a backup for Urban Meyer (pending the investigation).
As a backup to starter Will Grier last year, Chugunov threw for 536 yards on 43 of 90 attempts, including three touchdowns to two interceptions.
For Ohio State, this news likely comes as a result of the transfer of Joe Burrow to LSU. That loss has left the Buckeyes thin at the position with just three on scholarship. Dwayne Haskins is the named starter at the moment with Tate Martell backing him up, but No. 3 string Matthew Baldwin is still partially recovering from a knee-injury suffered his senior year in high school.
The addition of Chugunov then gives Ohio State some insurance should one or two signal-callers go down, and as we found out during the 2014 season, depth at the quarterback position could prove as a big difference maker.
