Harrison: Final Thoughts Before Ohio State vs. Rutgers, Week 2

Each week we bring you some random thoughts before Ohio State takes to the gridiron. It’s time to kick off Big Ten play with the Buckeyes taking on Rutgers.

  • I kind of like these early in the season Big Ten games. It breaks up the mundane schedules of non-conference pasties a bit. This is only the second year of it, but so far so good Jim Delany.
  • I’d give almost everything I have to go against the notion that Rutgers won’t score for the third-straight game against Ohio State. The Buckeyes’ defense is still figuring things out and Rutgers is better than 2016 and ’17.
  • For those of you that don’t know, Rutgers running back Raheem Blackshear can be a difference maker. The Scarlet Knights might still be looking to upgrade depth and talent across the board, but he can play almost anywhere.
  • This game has to be a little awkward on both sides of the ball. Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano built Rutgers into something when he was there, and current Scarlet Knights head coach Chris Ash was once in Schiano’s place at Ohio State.
  • This is the first game plan that Urban Meyer will have had a hand in. Be on the lookout for any nuances or different tendencies from week one. By the way, is texting plays a part of the suspension?
  • On that note, will the coaching staff still let Haskins sling it around the field? If he can continue to stretch defenses, Ohio State is going to be that much more dangerous.
  • Who will emerge this game from the running back slot? Mike Weber got more carries and yards last week, but at some point J.K. Dobbins is going to break out too.
