Could Tate Martell Be The Ohio State Starting Quarterback As Early As Next Year?

Dwayne Haskins has hit the ground running in 2018 and might just position himself to enter the NFL Draft at season’s end if he keeps it up. Might we see the Tate Martell show before you know it?

The conversation surrounding new Ohio State starting quarterback Dwayne Haskins has gone from hoping he can transition to the guy, to wondering if he’ll be around for another year.

A Site To Behold Thus Far

That’s because Haskins is showing the world what he can do with his ability to read, go through his progressions and put the ball in the right spot with the right touch and feel.

His performance in the first two weeks has gotten him in some of the discussions for Heisman consideration, and if he keeps it up, there could be more waiting at the end of the Scarlet and Gray rainbow.

What a difference a few weeks makes.

First things first. Haskins has to continue to show the skill he’s rolled out on the field as the competition level goes up. It’ll be a good litmus test this week against a very good TCU defense, and there will of course be plenty more opportunities down the line against the likes of Penn State, Michigan and Michigan State.

How he does in those contests will ultimately prove his worth to everyone at the next level. And that’s what we’re talking about here.

Haskins is a redshirt sophomore, which means he will be three years removed from high school at the end of the college football season. That means he will be eligible to leave early for the NFL Draft if he so desires.

It’s not a done deal that he’d declare early if he has the year he’s capable of, but it’s certainly not out of the question any longer — again depending on what happens the rest of this year.

And that brings us to our next point.

If Haskins does leave early, then your next starting quarterback at Ohio State could very well be … Tate Martell folks. And well before you think.
