Urban Meyer provided an update on star defensive end Nick Bosa today during his weekly call-in show, and it’s not the best of news.

According to Meyer, Bosa underwent surgery as a result of a “lower abdominal” injury he suffered in the TCU game. There is no timetable at the moment for his return.

“He had a core muscle injury. He had surgery. We hope to get him back as soon as possible. Obviously, one of the best players in football and a better person,” said Meyer.

The loss of one of the best players in college football is obviously a huge one, and one that will leave an impact on the defense, but if there’s any spot that can absorb such a loss, it would be the defensive line — arguably one of the most talented and deep in the country.

Bosa currently leads the Big Ten in sacks with 4.0, and is known as a potential top-three pick in this year’s NFL Draft, but he’s now on the shelf for the foreseeable future.

It’s now up to guys like current Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week Dre’Mont Jones, Chase Young, Robert Landers and gang to step up and continue to provide the push and gap assignment that’s been so key for Ohio State over the last few years.

Oh, and Ohio State plays Penn State next weekend folks.

Stay tuned to Buckeye Wire and we’ll provide updates on Nick Bosa as they become available.
