Ohio State defensive end Chase Young was already named the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Week, and now he’s doubled down as the Bednarik Award’s National Defensive Player of the Week as well — and for good reason.

With the fact that Nick Bosa is out until at least November, the Buckeye defense needed someone to step up big in whiteout conditions Saturday night, and Young decided to do something about it.

As a matter of fact, he had himself a game — and a half.

Young had six tackles total, three of which were for a loss (2.0 sacks), two huge pass break ups, two more QB hurries, and of course the game-ending tackle. There’s no reason he’s getting all the recognition that has come his way.

Even when Bosa was healthy and camping out in opponent’s backfields, it was often Young meeting him and flashing his potential as well. We’ll now get to see that supporting role carry over to a prime part of what Ohio State’s defensive line will do from here on out. At least that’s the hope.

And so far so good.
