The Ohio State basketball team will enter the 2018-19 season with somewhat unassuming expectations. That’s because the Columbus Dispatch and The Athletic conducted an unofficial Big Ten Preseason Media Poll and Ohio State came in at No. 8.

Michigan State (No. 1) and Michigan (No. 2) topped the poll.

Though it’s understandable that expectations would fall back a bit with the losses of Big Ten Player of the Year Keita Bates-Diop as well as Kam Williams, Jae’Sean Tate, and Andrew Dakich, it feels a little bit like a lack of respect with what Chris Holtmann was able to do in year one.

If you’ll remember, Ohio State was picked 11th in the same preseason poll before surprising everyone by finishing second in the league with a 15-3 record.

The Buckeyes may have lost a lot of experience, but it does return a deep team with multiple pieces that can plug and play anywhere, and will get a boost from guys like guard Luther Muhammad and forward Jaedon LeDee in the incoming class.

There’s no doubt that this year’s team now has some bulletin board material to use in trying to prove doubters wrong yet again. And I like its chances.
