Ohio State Vs. Purdue Preview And Prediction - Week 8

Dwayne Haskins continued to carry the Buckeyes in a win over a feisty Minnesota team. Ohio State has to get some things fixed with the run game and defense if it wants to make a legitimate run at a playoff appearance.

A win is a win, but another grinder against a talent inferior team is not a good look for Ohio State. Thank goodness for the golden arm of Dwayne Haskins, although his shoulders have to be getting sore. Not from throwing the ball forty plus times a game, but from carrying this team.

The offensive line really struggled to open up any kind of holes for the running game and seemed to have trouble in pass protection against a much smaller, quicker, Minnesota defensive line.

Defensively, Ohio State has had some injuries, so we’ll cut a little slack. The secondary had two big interceptions deep in their own territory at opportune times, but they are still giving up too many big plays with poor technique. Turn and find the ball or the stripes will call pass interference all day long.

On top of that, there was little to no pressure on true freshman, walk-on QB Zack Annexstad, sacking him only twice. Coming into the game Minnesota had given up the most sacks in the Big Ten.

I believe the coaches and players are working hard to fix these issues, but the Bucks can’t continue this type of play and expect to win against equal talent.

A trip to West Lafayette looms to face the Boilermakers who are as hot as any team in the country. Beware of the dreaded trap game.
