Ohio State vs. Purdue Buckeye Wire Staff Predictions

Through the rest of the college football season, the staff of Buckeye Wire will be providing individual score predictions for each Ohio State game.

Ohio State travels to West Lafayette to take on a Purdue team that is playing the best it has all year. Here’s how each member of the Buckeye Wire staff sees the game playing out.

Ohio State 42, Purdue 38

This one’s going to be much closer than the line of -14 in Ohio State’s favor suggests. Purdue is going to move the ball up and down the field, but so is Ohio State. It’ll go back and forth, but the Buckeyes offense and defense has more skill, and is a tad better than Purdue. I have a feeling this is going to be a tight affair though.

Here’s my prediction, plus some other nuggets for Saturday evening’s contest.

Ohio State 42, Purdue 37

As I said in our preview, both the Bucks and Boilers are struggling on defense, and both are putting up some big numbers on offense. It’s a shootout, but Ohio State has a little more firepower on both sides of the ball.

Ohio State 45, Purdue 38

I think this game is going to be a shootout. Purdue is very dangerous now that they’ve settled on a QB and have seemingly no problem passing at anytime. Its offensive style exploits the perceived problems with OSU’s defense. Purdue is among the top teams nationally in “big plays.” Brohm’s offense is taking shape and it’s scary for the rest of the BigTen. That said, I don’t think Purdue can’t stop OSU’s playmaking weapons. Lots of commercials and a long game Saturday night.

Ohio State will dominate after a sluggish start last week, and with returning players on the defensive side, they will lock down Purdue’s offense holding them to just two touchdowns. On the offensive side, Ohio State will show its dominance with Haskins at the helm, and the running game will get off the ground to balance the passing attack.
