Don't Count Ohio State Out Of The College Football Playoff Just Yet

After the initial College Football Playoff Poll, it’s easy to think to yourself that the odds look dim for Ohio State. But don’t count the Buckeyes out just yet. Resiliency and comebacks have been seen before in Columbus.

If this is any comfort, in 2014 after the first initial College Football Poll was released, Ohio State was ranked 16th. Maybe I’m the only that thinks this, but this year’s team seems a lot like 2014.

If there’s one thing for sure, there is a lot of chaos that could happen before the season is over, and it could begin in earnest this week. With a top-five matchup between Alabama and LSU, it allows the first of many opportunities for Ohio State to move up in the College Football Playoff poll.

You know what sticks out like a sore thumb? There are four SEC teams ranked above Ohio State, and while that sounds like a southern narrative, there’s good news. If Alabama keeps on winning, it would clear out the SEC for the most part — as long as Ohio Sate keeps on winning.

Here are several thoughts for Buckeye fans to think about as we hold our breath for the remainder of the season, in hopes that Ohio State is included in the Playoff when everything is revealed the first week of December.

There has never been a one-loss Big Ten Championship winner that hasn’t made the playoff. If that doesn’t emphasize the importance of winning out, I don’t know what does. Ohio State can expect the game against Michigan to be the first round of the playoffs for them. In fact, come to think of it, that starts Saturday against Nebrasksa.

Ohio State showed in 2014 at the end of the year what it was capable of with dominating performances against Michigan and Wisconsin. It is set up perfectly to do the same this year because of what lies in wait at the end of the rainbow. With a huge game against Michigan, Ohio State could show its dominance once again on the big stage.

Also, with come from behind wins this year against TCU and Penn State, you can never count the Scarlet and Gray out, and don’t expect anything different as the end of 2018 wraps up.

At the end of the day, Ohio State is set for a perfect run to the College Football Playoff, and don’t be surprised if it’s holding a trophy come January.

We’ve seen it happen before.
