Harrison: Final Thoughts Before Ohio State vs. Nebraska

Here we go with the first game since everything went wrong in West Lafayette. The publisher of Buckeye Wire has some thoughts and observations prior to the game on Saturday.

  • Does anyone else besides me not really know what to expect this week? Nebraska was awful to start the year, but is improving. Ohio State seems to be going the other direction.
  • I not a stuffy traditionalist. I actually enjoy the alternate uniforms, but I’m a little baffled by the all-black uniforms for a noon game. Also, isn’t there a better game to break out this look? How about the Michigan game rather than against a 2-6 rebuilding Nebraska team?
  • How has Ohio State struggled with the run game. It has two proven and talented tailbacks and has such size, strength and girth on the offensive-line. It has to be effort and/or scheme no? Let’s hope that changes this week.
  • Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez is making a push for Big Ten Freshman of the Year, but my vote goes to Purdue wide receiver Rondale Moore. Look up two weeks ago …
  • Ohio State’s secondary is going to perhaps get its biggest challenge of the season. Martinez is a dual-option to be sure, but both Stanley Morgan and J.D. Spielman are two of the best pass-catchers in the league.
  • On that note, what’s the over/under on the number of pass-interference penalties called on the OSU secondary in this one? Four? Five?
  • I’m calling for some Tate Martell sightings in the red zone and short-yardage situations Saturday. The coaching staff has to do something to improve in those areas, and he seems like a good option to get one of those defenders out of the box and spying, thus opening up some more running lanes. No?
  • If Haskins throws for over 400 yards in this one, it’ll be the fourth-straight game. If Haskins throws for over 400 yards in this one, it won’t be a good thing.
  • It’s not like Urban Meyer wants complete balance with the offense. Instead of a 250/250 split in yardage, I think if you were to pin him down, it would be more like 300/200 with Haskins behind center. Unfortunately, we’ve haven’t seen enough of that this year.
  • Alert: If Ohio State can play a close game against Minnesota, it can happen against Nebraska. But I don’t see it.
  • I really miss Nick Bosa. So does Urban Meyer and the entire team. Just trust me on this.
  • Ohio State needs to roll in this one to get some confidence back. Plain and simple.
