Dear Ohio State Fans, The Sky Might Be Closing In, But It's Not Falling

Just three weeks ago, Ohio State had a clear path to Oz. After the blow out in West Lafayette and struggles elsewhere, it feels like the end of any hopes of traveling the CFP yellow brick road. Time for just a little perspective.

I know, I know Ohio State fans. The Buckeyes seem to be digressing as opposed to building towards a well-oiled Scarlet and Gray machine as a championship drive is supposed to take shape.

A loss to an unranked opponent 49-20 tends to reset expectations just a bit. So does the lack of a running game, or a full-length movie of big-plays given up on defense. Or the lack of intestinal fortitude in the red zone.

But I’m here to talk you off the ledge and remind you that things could be worse, and that all is not lost.

For starters, you could be a fan of 119 other FBS teams. That’s because in reality, all but about ten teams are still alive for a key to the college football kingdom known as the College Football Playoff. That’s it.

Let’s take a trip through the countryside shall we?

You could be a fan of LSU or Kentucky from the SEC whom –for all intents and purposes — just got eliminated last week (sorry Joe Burrow). You could follow a Pac-12 team. Washington State is the only remaining one-loss team left in that underachieving conference, and even if it wins out, there’s a lack of quality wins to put it past any other one-loss team left.

Or, how about being a fan of UCF. The Knights have continued to rack up wins, but there’s no way, no how the playoff selection committee is going to open up the pearly gates unless a can of total chaos is opened up over the last few weeks of the season.

Heck, you could be any other Big Ten team not named Michigan because it’s the two old rivals alone, that have any real shot at being considered for all the festivities.

But yeah, things don’t feel right do they? I can agree with that.
