We were hit with a bombshell today with a release from Ohio State regarding the basketball program. Less than a week before the start of the season, and a potentially huge matchup with the Cincinnati Bearcats, word comes that forward Micah Potter is transferring from the program.

To say that the news blind-sided everyone would be an understatement. Potter was expected to be a leader on the team and projected to see significant minutes in 2018-19. He was even vying for a potential starting position with this year’s team.

No reason was given in the release, and no new destination was provided, but now Ohio State must move forward with less depth in the front court, and the loss of a stretching skill set that can create mismatches.

Here’s the full and short release from Ohio State with a statement from head coach Chris Holtmann:

Micah Potter, a 6-9 junior forward from Mentor, Ohio, has decided to transfer from the Ohio State men’s basketball program, Chris Holtmann, head coach of the Buckeyes, announced Monday.

“We appreciate Micah’s contributions to our program and we wish him the very best moving forward,” Holtmann said.

Potter appeared in 59 games with 16 starts during his career. He averaged 4.1 points and 2.8 rebounds while shooting 46 percent from the field (87-189).
