Brett McMurphy Passes Mark May As Enemy No. 1 To Ohio State

We all know how polarizing former ESPN analyst Mark May was to Ohio State fans. Well, we now have someone that has surpassed “May Day” as enemy No. 1 in Columbus.

For about the past decade or so, Mark May has been Ohio States fans’ biggest villain. May has constantly hated on the Buckeyes, he has rejoiced in their losses, critiqued their wins, and questioned the program’s prestige even in its greater success.

May was clearly at the top of the Ohio State public enemy list until recently when Stadium reporter Brett McMurphy claimed the No. 1 spot from him hands down. McMurphy was the first reporter to break the controversial story this past summer about Coach Zach Smith. However, it was not this report that skyrocketed McMurphy to the No.1 spot — albeit close.

While the reporting on the story this past summer definitely put him on this “special” list, and questioned his motives, the recent story this week regarding former Buckeye Trevon Grimes is what took the scarlet and gray cake. McMurphy reported the real reason Trevon Grimes transferred to the University of Florida was because Coach Zach Smith used a racial slur towards Grimes.

McMurphy implies in his reporting and article that Grimes lied about his mother having cancer, and eluded to the Buckeyes and Urban Meyer potentially covering this up. McMurphy’s reporting and writing are not only inaccurate, but also not ethical.

In fact since then, several current players, the national media and fellow journalists have been very critical of McMurphy, leaving him twisting in the wind.

I mean, who accuses a young man of making up that their mother has cancer? And what legitimate reporter uses a personal vendetta that McMurphy has against Meyer and the Buckeyes to hurt the image of a young man, his mother, and attack a coaching staff wrongly?

There’s simply no way this thing looks like anything else but that.

Brett McMurphy crossed the line, and according to reports he also cost Grimes’ mother her job. So Mark May can relax now, Brett McMurphy is now Buckeye Nation public enemy No. 1. And it’s by a wider margin than the 72-0 score Ohio State put on Mark May’s Pitt team back in the late ’90s.
