Ohio State has had an impressive start to the 2018-19 campaign. So much so that it is No. 1 early on in the new NET Rankings used by the NCAA this year as a sorting mechanism to replace the RPI.

This on the heels of a very unexpected 2017-18 season in which the Buckeyes wildly surpassed expectations. Yes, there is no other way to say it — the start of the Chris Holtmann era at Ohio State has been nothing short of fantastic.

But it’s unlikely that the program would have attracted a coach like Chris Holtmann to build this momentum without the groundwork laid by former head coach Thad Matta.

Holtmann has always embraced Matta and his accomplishments, and this will continue with the announcement via Twitter that arguably the most successful Buckeye basketball coach of all time will be honored at halftime of the Ohio State vs. Syracuse game. The game is being played as a part of the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

You can bet the reception by Buckeye fans will be an extremely warm one.
