Is There An Anti-Ohio State Bias This Year With The College Football Playoff Rankings?

A quick post-ranking social media browse suggests that many Ohio State fans believe there is an anti-OSU bias in the committee rankings this season.

Personally, I do not believe there is a bias against the Buckeyes; but, rather a bias against the one ugly loss recent OSU teams have endured. This committee seems to have added weight to the “bad loss” criteria and removed weight from the “good win” criteria they seem to be using to decide which teams deserves to make the playoff.

It seems that instead of evaluating teams on their peak performance and potential, they have opted to evaluate teams with emphasis on their worst performance(s) of the year.

While not directed specifically at the Buckeyes, Ohio State does seem to be the team that this affects most. It’s what kept OSU out last season and what will seemingly keep the Buckeyes out this season.

This committee is headed in a bad direction if they do not emphasize good wins. It will undoubtedly lead to weaker scheduling if teams are not getting due credit for big wins and being penalized for blowout losses. The original committee members understood what makes college football great. This committee seemingly does not.

So Buckeyes’ fans need not be concerned about bias. They need to be concerned about the competence of this committee.
