What a magical season it has been for Dwayne Haskins in his first year as The Ohio State University’s starting quarterback. Expectations were high after Haskins led the Buckeyes to a come from behind win at Michigan in 2017 won the starting job in 2018.

The weight of those expectations didn’t phase Haskins as he re-wrote OSU and Big Ten records (27 to be exact) throughout the 2018 campaign. Now he is being rewarded with an invite to New York City with a chance to claim the most coveted trophy in all of sports.

But does the Buckeye quarterback have a shot? The national media has been pumping Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama) and Kyler Murray (Oklahoma) most of the year, and with good reason. They both have had outstanding seasons. But so too has Dwayne Haskins. Yet for some reason, he hasn’t seemed to get quite the same publicity.

Let’s take a look at how the three QBs stack up after last week’s conference championship games.

Dwayne Haskins:

Big Ten Championship Game Stats: 499 yards passing, 82.9 CMP%, 5 touchdowns, 1 interception

Season Stats: 12-1 record, 4,580 yards passing, 70.2 CMP%, 47 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, 122 yards rushing, 4 rushing touchdowns

Tua Tagovailoa:

SEC Championship Game Stats: 164 yards passing, 40.0 CMP%, 1 touchdown, 2 interceptions

Season Stats: 13-0 record, 3,353 yards passing, 67.7 CMP%, 37 touchdowns, 4 interceptions, 190 yards rushing, 5 rushing touchdowns

Kyler Murray:

Big 12 Championship Game Stats: 379 yards passing, 73.5 CMP%, 3 touchdowns, 0 interceptions

Seasons Stats: 12-1 record, 4,053 yards passing, 70.9 CMP%, 40 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 892 yards rushing, 11 rushing touchdowns

The stats look incredibly close and yet somehow, after setting records for most yards, touchdowns, and completions in a Big Ten Championship game, Haskins odds went down…

It would be hard to argue against any of these guys, all worthy candidates. It will however, be interesting to see how the voting turns out and what regions voted for who. Judging by the stats, this could be one of the closest Heisman races in history.

Good Luck Dwayne! Buckeye Nation is pulling for you!
