Ohio State and head coach Ryan Day just received a huge win on the recruiting front as four-star linebacker Tommy Eichenberg has announced his intentions on playing for Ohio State. It is Ryan Day’s first commitment after being announced as head coach heading into 2019.

This is big news coming at a very critical time for Ohio State. One of the best recruiters of all time, Urban Meyer, aannounced his retirement just days ago, and all eyes are on recruiting to see what happens as fallout.

The Buckeyes lost two four-star commitments shortly after the announcement (Athlete Lejond Cavazos and offensive lineman Jake Wray), but most of those already verbally committed have come out and pledged ongoing support in staying with their commitment to OSU.

The fact that Eicheberg picked the Buckeyes at a crossroads in time says a lot for Ryan Day and what he might be able to do going forward.

Eichenberg is rated as the No. 8 player in the state of Ohio, eighteenth rated inside linebacker in the country, and No. 321 rated recruit in the country. He is out of the fabled Cleveland St. Ignatius program and the coaches believe they have a kid that’s better than what the labels suggest with a high motor and great character.
