J.T. Barrett Again Released From Saints In Ridiculous 22nd Transaction

Former Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett has been released from the Saints practice squad yet again. It makes twenty-two transactions in a revolving door type of season.

Former Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett is unemployed yet again. That’s because he was released from the practice squad on Jan. 2, apparently to make room for defensive lineman Henry Mondeaux who has also released and re-signed to the practice squad this year. The news was originally reported by  Nick Underhill of the Advocate.

One of our sister sites, Saints Wire does an excellent job lining up twenty-two total transactions that read like a criminal rap sheet. Here’s what Barrett has had to endure so far this year.

  • May 1: signed after the 2018 NFL Draft
  • Aug. 30: waived during final roster cuts
  • Sept. 1: re-signed to Saints practice squad
  • Sept. 7: released
  • Sept. 9: re-signed
  • Sept. 19: released
  • Sept. 21: re-signed
  • Sept. 26: released
  • Sept. 28: re-signed
  • Oct. 2: released
  • Oct. 20: re-signed
  • Oct. 24: released
  • Oct. 27: re-signed
  • Nov. 24: released
  • Nov. 26: re-signed
  • Dec. 5: released
  • Dec. 9: re-signed
  • Dec. 13: released
  • Dec. 17: re-signed
  • Dec. 19: released
  • Dec. 29: re-signed
  • Jan. 2: released

If there’s any advice for Barrett at this point, it would be to keep a suitcase packed and not to buy a house anywhere, anytime soon. At this point, he’ll probably be re-signed before we can get this news out.

Other teams have been very creative with their releasing and re-signing of players especially if they believe they won’t be picked up off the waiver wire, but what Barrett has had to endure is a bit over the top.

Welcome to the journeyman life of an undrafted free agent trying to catch on somewhere.
